Washington, D.C. – Favorite Outdoor Bars

The sun is finally shining and the humidity hasn’t yet taken over, it’s the best time of year in DC. Which means it’s patio season! Here’s our favorite watering holes where you can also enjoy the outdoors!

Dirty Habit – Chinatown
Touristing downtown? Then head to Hotel Monaco’s Dirty Habit bar. The outdoor courtyard is gorgeous and set up to cater to large groups with their comfortable seating arrangements and fire pits.

Cheers at Dirty Habit!

For the history buffs, this site was the original General Post Office and was the only government building spared during the British pyromania in the War of 1812. Today it hosts a happy hour during the week in the heart of downtown where you can toast your friends from across the pond!

Anxo – Bloomingdale

This neighborhood corner bar serves up delicious Basque inspired bites and their very own cider. Anxo Cidery and Pintxos (Peen-chos) Bar boasts the largest cider list in the world! The outdoor brick patio has plenty of seating and picnic tables to enjoy the summer evenings. Try the Rose cider for a perfect warm weather drink!

The Betsy – Barracks Row
Located in a back alley above Belga Cafe, this bar is an open air roof top serving an array of gin cocktails and tasty small plates. An intimate spot for small groups Betsy’s is laid back, fun and perfect for summer!

Of all the gin joints in the world…walk into this one!

American Ice Co – U Street

One word: swachos!!  Never heard of swachos?  Neither did we until we came to American Ice!  Enjoy this bar’s take on pork nachos (swine + nachos = swachos!), which include tortilla chips, pulled pork, the most heavenly melted cheese blend of all time, and jalapenos!  They’re so good that Stella pulls to go into the bar on her daily walks (did we mention this is also a dog friendly patio?)!  Not into swachos?  Don’t worry- their menu offers a variety of BBQ style food to choose from.  You can find a variety of beer, as well as a full bar, to help wash down whatever you decide to eat!

Colony Club/No Kisses Bar/Sonny’s – Park View

The shared patio for these bars is the perfect place to meet friends (human and furry) for a drink after work!  Each bar has a happy hour menu that includes beer, wine, and cocktails!  The best part—the van now serves drinks too, so you don’t even have to go inside!  Make sure you’re hungry because you’ll want to grab a slice (or whole pie) from Sonny’s!  Trying to get that summer bod in check?  The salads are amazing too!  If you’re looking for other dog friendly patios (or activities, hotels, etc.) be sure to check out Two Paws Up, which provides a searchable map of the best dog friendly places and activities in DC!
