Palais et parcs et musées – oh, my!

Traveler: Dan Nguyen

The city of Paris has so much to offer that it can become overwhelming to fit it all in.  From the countless museums, monuments, shopping, and gardens — Paris has it all.  But where do you start?  Well if you are in the mood to eat, sightsee, or relax, we’ve got you covered:

EAT at Le Comptoir de la Gastronomie. Did someone say duck, duck, goose? Actually, just more duck.  Start with any (or all) of the foie gras varieties on the menu and end with the duck confit.  If you’re not a fan of eating animals that go “quack,” the steak is also a must try.  An added bonus is the shop next door where you can purchase foie gras and other products to bring home and attempt to recreate the meal.
SIGHTSEE at the Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmarte.  Perched atop the highest point of the city, the basilica, while quite stunning itself, offers breathtaking panoramic views of Paris including the Eiffel Tower and the skyline of La Défense.  For the lazy ones, including myself, ride the funicular up the 118-foot climb and enjoy the City of Light.
RELAX at the Place des Vosges. Located in the historic Marais district, it is one of the oldest planned squares in Paris. Although originally used solely by French nobility, regular folks can now take in the views and enjoy a picnic in the central formal gardens (Thanks French Revolution!).
LEARN French before you visit. They’ll appreciate it if you know some basics. Great apps such as Duolingo are fun and easy to use.
